Activity Analysis

 

Each activity in the process is analysed using this decision tree to determine its activity attribute.

 

 

Activities will fall into one of three attributes:

 

Typical Lean (Value Adding) Activities

  • Registering

  • Assessing

  • Receipt

  • Issuing

  • Fixing

 Examples include:

  • Registering a Planning Application

  • Assessing needs for a Care Package

  • Receipt of a Job Application

  • Issuing a Building Warrant

  • Fixing a leaking tap

Typical Non Lean (Non Value Adding) Activities

  • Checking

  • Waiting

  • Progress Chasing

  • Transferring Control

  • Copying

  • Duplicating

 Examples include:

  • Checking a member of staff's spreadsheet

  • Waiting whilst an application sits in an in tray

  • Progress Chasing - phoning up to check if an invoice is paid

  • Transferring Control - passing a form to another team member

  • Copying - making a copy of form for different people

  • Duplicating - different people checking the same form

 Typical Sustaining Non Value Adding Activities

  • Auditing

  • Collation of performance indicators

  • Completion of time sheets

  • Authorising

  • Counting

  • Signing

 Examples include:

  • Auditing - random check of job tickets for compliance

  • Collation of performance indicators - local and statutory

  • Completion of time sheets

  • Authorising expense claims

  • Counting number of visitors to a library

  • Signing a work ticket
