SPRINT

SPRINT is a change and innovation method developed specifically for the public sector. It is the core of a suite of initiatives designed to foster learning and best-practice in public sector renewal. It is underpinned by a philosophy that sees successful public-sector change as emanating from a fertile environment in which leading-edge knowledge, methods and techniques are made available. Amongst SPRINT's characteristics are the following:

Its development arises from the idea of 'capacity building', i.e. providing resources and methods that encourage learning and development within the public sector. It reflects the observation that many in the public sector are committed to change and ideals of progress and community value, and that new knowledge and methods can help them in achieving this.

The BPR training course run by SPRINT contains a case study in which delegates are able to practice the techniques of BPR using a real process and actual process maps. Now the staff at SPRINT (Salford Council) have recognised that this case study and their BPR methodology will benefit from the introduction of a recognised approach to service delivery costing and have asked ValueAdding.com Ltd to develop a one day training course to be run in conjunction with their own BPR courses.

Councils who are members of the SPRINT community will be able to attend the training course and undertake a costing exercise that will give them both an understanding of the theory of Rough-cut ABC and an opportunity to put it into practice.

In addition to this we are working to develop additional services for community members and initially this will mean that they have the chance to download simple spreadsheet versions of our models. Those that invite us to help with their costing projects will be given a SPRINT labelled version of our Microsoft Access based Rough-cut ABC model.
